Through the Ages - A Knotty Guide to Crystals used by Ancient Civilizations

Crystals have been valued across ancient civilizations, often believed to have special powers. Their historical uses span cultures and continents:

Ancient Egypt: Egyptians believed crystals like turquoise, lapis lazuli, and quartz protected against negative energies and brought health. They crafted these crystals into jewelry, amulets, and burial ornaments to guide spirits in the afterlife.

Greece and Rome: The Greeks used amethyst as protection against drunkenness, while hematite was worn by soldiers before battle to protect them. Romans used crystals for healing, adornment, and as talismans.

China: In traditional Chinese medicine, jade has been highly valued for thousands of years. The Chinese used jade for jewelry, art, and spiritual practices, believing it brought good health, wealth, and longevity.

India: Ayurvedic medicine, a traditional healing system, uses crystals for balancing energy and chakras (energy centers in the body). Clear quartz, carnelian, lapis lazuli, and amber have all played roles in treatments aimed at restoring balance and health.

Mesoamerican Civilizations: The Aztecs, Mayans, and other Mesoamerican cultures believed crystals like obsidian had spiritual powers. They used it for tools, ritual masks, and mirrors thought to see into other realms.
